What is Keratin?

Keratin is a protein found naturally in the hair that acts as a protective shield against humidity (the primary cause of frizz). Over time, the hair loses keratin from exposure to the sun, environment, styling, and chemical services, causing the hair to be frizzy, damaged, &/or tangled.

Keratin works with the porosity of the hair. Most frizz, damage, and tangled hair is due to overly porous hair.

What is a Keratin Treatment?

Keratin treatments fill in the gaps where keratin has been depleted, so humidity is combated and hair is left smooth, healthy, and more manageable.

There are a variety of keratin treatments to choose from, some that eliminate frizz AND straighten the hair, & some that are geared more towards eliminating frizz, making the hair healthier and easier to style, and a slight reduction in texture (wave or curl).

I carry & perform the (#1 rated Favorite Smoothing treatment for 9 years running) Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatments. This treatment is not meant for straightening the hair. While this treatment can reduce wave and curl, it keeps more body in the hair than a straightening treatment. This allows you to style wavy, curly, or straight - as desired, while eliminating 95% of frizz in the hair. Also, unlike Straightening treatments, the Keratin Complex brand does NOT contain formaldehyde (neither of us want to breathe that in or have it in our hair!😵‍💫) Straightening Treatments can also cause hair breakage, dry/brittle hair, & hair loss over time (😲umm, also no thank you!) The Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatment helps restore strength and health to your hair, & also helps to prevent damage by reducing the need for hot tools.

2 Different Options

There are 2 different Treatment options that I offer - the Full Keratin Treatment & the Express Keratin Treatment. They both essentially do the same thing, but here are the key differences.

Full Keratin Treatment

• Lasts up to 5 months (the less you wash your hair, the longer it will last)

• Best for reducing wave/curl

• Best for thick, coarse, or super unruly hair

• Must wait 72 hours before washing hair, & it is recommended to not clip or tie up hair during this time period

• Takes 2-3 hours in salon (depending on length/thickness of hair)

Keratin Express Treatment

• Lasts up to 6 weeks (the less you wash your hair, the longer it will last)

• Better option for thin or fine hair

• Must wait 8 hours before washing hair, & it is recommended to not clip or tie up hair during this time period

• Best for frizz reduction in curly hair

• Only takes 1 hour in the salon, or as an add on to haircut or color, only takes an extra 30 minutes.

• Perfect for those who would like to try the treatment out for the first time, if you're not ready to do the Full Keratin just yet.

One last thing
